This is one of the reasons that Anthropic’s warnings ring hollow. It appears hypocritical to constantly warn that AI will lead to mass layoffs while building the leading tool(s) driving mass layoffs in the software industry.
There is no “human cloning is bad but we’re the top human cloning company” CEO on TV.

@carnage4life Yes, because as I have repeatedly said, Misanthropic lies constantly and does whatever it wants internally. Continue ignoring my warnings at your peril. This company is a cult, and an extremely dangerous one. Nobody is pure, but this company.. as close to evil as it gets.

@codinghorror I don’t disagree, but doesn’t this apply pretty equally to at least “Open”AI, too? Constant lying and inconsistency seems to apply without a doubt personally to Sam and his orbit, and I’d throw the company in that bucket, too, even if only because it seems so shaped in his image. (I’d agree that Google and the other biggest direct competitors do not seem nearly as far down that road, at least in my perception.)

@matt_garber @codinghorror Yes, it does. Sam Altman is also a lying grifter.

@codinghorror
It does apply to OpenAI (if anything, the signs are even more obvious).It might extends to any major competitors hoarding resources for this. One fundamental is often trying to scale for economic objectives without ensuring to scale benefits for most.
