is anyone else getting random follows from accounts on infosec.exchange and defcon.social where the account is like a day or two old, has barely any profile filled out, has zero posts, zero followers, but is already follwing a few dozen or a few hundred accounts? seems super shady. ive been blocking them on sight
@Viss Yeah I've had a couple of those very recently. I just had one earlier today, went back to my notifications to view the account again, and the account seems to be gone now.

@Viss You basically described my account. I joined recently, don't care about followers or my profile. I just like to read stuff and occasionaly comment. I'm probably a "reply guy"? (oh, great) I used to go to the trending page every day before creating an account, but I wanted to be able to mute some accounts (that were trending rather often) that I didn't like. I understand that the urge to block my account would be strong and I don't blame anyone, it's what makes this place better IMHO.

@Viss True. But I might not have any just as well.

@jerry im in several ai/llm chatgroups and the shit i see on the daily is brain melty. if i could still drink i would have pickled my brain by now. one dude, someone you know, is exhibiting straight up signs of obvious ai psychosis. like, dude talks to claude like its his pal. he has conversations with it like its a person. and hes openly saying people dont need to bother with the basics anymore 'because ai'. its bananas.
@Viss @jerry I’ve seen a few people in non-AI chat rooms responding to peoples’ questions with “Google AI says …” and then a literal copy/paste of the entire output.
It’s a DEFCON group, dude… if the person asking the question wanted a bad AI answer they would have asked AI themselves.
It’s like that guy who answers every question with by sending you the first two links to a google search for what you asked, as if others didn’t try googling before asking…. but worse.

@Viss @silhouette residential US IP addresses, tor exit nodes, and lately protonvpn. They have figured out how to mass create proton accounts because the last few day, protonmail.com and protonvpn IPs have become the strongest signal of a bot (but it’s also used by a lot of legit people)
@jerry @Viss @silhouette Well that explains why I'm getting blocked all the time. I use ProtonVPN now and again. Been using a residential proxy also. But even when using my actual IP now getting blocked.

@EdBruce @Viss @silhouette to be clear, I'm not blocking those - just an observation about where recent bot signups are coming from. I'm not sure why you would be blocked sometimes.

@jerry @linuxandyarn huh. i wonder what the point is of having 'follower only posts' if anybody can see them anyway?
@Viss @jerry @linuxandyarn It does make some sense if you require approving followers.
