The thing I constantly see media gloss over... The pole-mounted cameras are NOT doing any actual work, other than capturing cropped images and sometimes video.
It's the upload to AmazonAWS and whatever system they use in EC2 that can do ALL of the analytics and associations.
I would LOVE if the cameras did ALPR directly and uploaded TEXT, but they don't. They capture all motion, and use a YOLOv3tiny model to crop object, and upload that.
So, yes, EVERYTHING gets uploaded to AWS for further processing as they see fit.
So no, system capability is NOT based on camera models at all, it's all in AWS, always has been.

Maybe I'm wrong and I don't glean that context, but it would be worth while to point out that the cameras only feed raw data to "the machine" and "the machine" is far more capable and has datacenter scale image processing, analytics, and storage.

I am absolutely sure that all images are kept ""somewhere"" regardless of their stated retention policy. Maybe they do delete the images after 30 days, but not before "sharing" with a 3rd party that has indefinite storage -

Everything from vehicular paint jobs that look like a scrambled set of license plates to T-shirts covered in license plate numbers are now appearing as articles of clothing or decoration that defeat AI.
The effectiveness of these systems is open to question, but I love the idea that a colorful T-shirt or a pair of pants can completely defeat this stuff
It’s kind of like squirrels, defeating every effort to keep them from raiding a birdfeeder

Pretty sure I saw an image from Ben Jordan showing it capturing car/plate realtime. That tracks because the systems I have access to do the same on camera. None of those are flock..

The Falcon model Camera I had only did object detection when the motion sensor is triggered. Cropped stills from the video were queued in a SQlite database for upload to AWS. The camera does NOT do OCR, or any further analytics outside of what objects the YOLOv3tiny model detected in frame. Those object descriptions are part of the metadata tagged with the actual stills in the uploaded data.
Yes, you can get the debug output and bounding boxes, but those are only object classifications, not data like "red shirt" or OCR text from "plates"

That may be part of the "compute box" which can be included with a camera, but those functions were not built-in to the actual device capturing images and video.
