Apple founder Steve Wozniak jumped into the Slashdot comments on his 75th birthday last year.

The reason that some successful people aren't billionaires is because they use their wealth to make the world a better place. "Success" isn't measured by the number in a checkbook.

@estherschindler 75. 10 million and a couple of homes. Rich enough not to care exactly how much. And a street ‘for being good’. Not exactly a 99-er, is he. If that us not wealth, what is?

I gave all my Apple wealth away because wealth and power are not what I live for. I have a lot of fun and happiness. I funded a lot of important museums and arts groups in San Jose, the city of my birth, and they named a street after me for being good. I now speak publicly and have risen to the top. I have no idea how much I have but after speaking for 20 years it might be $10M plus a couple of homes. I never look for any type of tax dodge. I earn money from my labor and pay something like 55% combined tax on it. I am the happiest person ever. Life to me was never about accomplishment, but about Happiness, which is Smiles minus Frowns. I developed these philosophies when I was 18-20 years old and I never sold out.

@estherschindler Woz is the best. I love this story about him volunteering to be the computer science teacher at his daughter's school: https://www.vice.com/en/article/steve-wozniak-was-my-computer-teacher-in-1995-5886b75bb3515d45f3dc2f90/

              @estherschindler

I was privileged to see The Woz in the flesh at a talk he have in a city 700km away.
I travelled there for the express purpose of seeing him talk.
I did this not because he was wealthy, but because he was so important to the history of computers.

He was just a chill old geek.

Some Japanese people (including me) call him "The Wizard of Woz".😁

@s_d_brath @lindarosesmit @estherschindler You can't ethically become a billionaire; you have to go out of your way to exploit and steal. But you can definitely get to the Woz's level with well-intentioned fair dealing. He even gave some of his stock to folks the other Steve left out (see the above point about exploiting and stealing) when Apple went public.

@lindarosesmit the trick is to dig a bit more deeply. Try to appreciate the difference between a million and a billion. Or tens, or hundreds of billions.

An inventor whose company is now worth 4,500,000 millions, has 10 of them. Some contemporaries:

                    10 m - woz
                    10,200 m - jobs, 15 years ago
                    55,000 m - jobs’ estate now, (est)
                    143,000 m - Balmer
                    106,000 m -Gates
                    205,000 m - Larry Ellison
                    800,000 m - Musk

@estherschindler Woz keynoted at MacHack one year, and he holds the record for most keynote delivered—he spoke from midnight to about 5AM, a lively, interactive session.
