The man has an instinct for scams and money loopholes, even if he can't explain how it works he looks at something like this and says "yes these are my kind of people doing my kind of thing."
That ought to be more alarming than anything else.

My step-dad learned the worst of the worst sales techniques in the 1950s. He was a bit of a con artist. Whatever it took to make a sale.
In watching him and his contemporaries, I discovered that salesmen are the worst for falling for a scam. He'd buy speakers from people selling them from unmarked vans at a gas station. He'd pick up labor saving devices at the state fair. The list went on and on.
In essence the same fawning techniques a conman uses on their mark are the same ones they're prone to fall for when used on them.

I’ve always liked that phrase “flim flam man” I may have to start sportin that phrase again.

@futurebird Hell, you could be an expert in one of the customer industries and question the techniques used by sales and processes to accomplish the relevant tasks.
