Saying so doesn't undermine religious freedom, but if you can't supposedly practice your religion freely without terrorising a child in the process, then perhaps you don't deserve to practice it altogether!
@weekendspy PREACH!!! (u know what I mean)

@weekendspy
Increíble como el estado japonés tiene 2 dedos de frente para estas cosas, y que luego hagan corto circuito al ver a alguien marrón. Supongo que a cada uno sus aciertos y fracasos. -

when i was in grammar school, a classmate was a southern baptist. he was frequently in tears because all of his friends were not southern baptist, so they were all going to burn in hell for eternity.
anyone who does that to kids doesn't get to call themselves a good or moral person.

@paul_ipv6 @weekendspy a few times I've heard them try to make that positive somehow, as if adding 'at least' makes it a relief to believe... normally they discourage or forbid being friends with anyone outside, no interactions beyond conversion attempts and necessary ones, and then there's some more twisted way of feeling better about oneself.

I lived in fear of Hell. I never worked out how a merciful God could operate according to Romans 3 and still say he loved us.
My parents died, still believing I was still on board. I miss the idea of Heaven somewhat, but I look back on all the misery and fear, both inside and outside.

@weekendspy exactly!
If it was my decision #Religion would be regulated like #Pornography and only consenting adults would be allowed to practise!

@weekendspy Indeed and freedom of religion must include freedom from religion. Here in America some employers believe they can now demand a letter of recommendation from "your pastor" on employment forms.

@Netzblockierer @weekendspy I believe religion is a deep need in humans and forbidding all aspects of it is cruel beyond measure.
Then again I was taught that gay people go to hell, which is not an easy lesson to live with as a horny kid.
There are no religious exemptions for e.g. human sacrifice. Certain practices can be banned as inhuman...

@tuban_muzuru @weekendspy The parable of the Good Shepherd terrified me. God is a shepherd who cares for his sheep. But the shepherd kills the sheep and eats them. It’s the beginning of some kind of horror story.

@tychosoft @weekendspy
I'd never let my brother write a letter of recommendation for me. I got ordained online when he did (probably tasteless I know). I guess I could write my recommendation. -

@janvenetor @Netzblockierer @weekendspy If religion was really a need... how do we atheist exist? The ones that were raised with no religion at all. The ones that are mentally healthy and strong.

@delawen @Netzblockierer @weekendspy I'm a positive atheist.
Forbidding piano music would stump humanity. Not all people like music. Banning dropping pianos on people would be proportional.

It absolutely isn’t a universal need. I personally never had it and as a little kid, I saw it as a massive hassle I was forced to observe by clearly lying adults.

@weekendspy Yes, that's true.

@weekendspy does anyone have the sauce? I can only find stuff from 2022.

@delawen @janvenetor @Netzblockierer @weekendspy Hi, I'm an atheist. And while I, on balance, believe the world would be a better place if secularism won, I recognize that religion is still important to a lot of people. Moreover, it doesn't make all of them bad people.
I sang in an Episcopal choir for several years. I was a cantor, I was a lector, despite being an atheist. Why? I found the experience to be beautiful: the music, the text, the building, the friends, and the message of love.

@delawen @janvenetor @Netzblockierer @weekendspy My Episcopalian friends were lovely. I don't believe in Christ, but they lived out his values way better than other Christians I've met. They taught me that you can have faith AND be a good person.
I have no choice but to respect other people's beliefs, as long as they're not hurting anyone. Even if they aren't my beliefs.
Scaring kids with hell is not okay, though. To be clear.
