Welcome Anthropic as a Corporate Patron sponsor of the Blender Foundation’s Development Fund!

@desttinghim I try to keep messaging consistent and not cater to specific audiences. That would be misleading. Criticizing Anthropic is not going to help, what we actually do with the funding matters.
@fsiddi @desttinghim right, so you want to make sure that across the board, all the creative people using the software and investing in support are backhanded equally and with clarity, and warned away from ever trusting again.
fantastic! -
@Blender so sorry to hear about the collapse of this project. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavours.
@amcooper I lol'd

@Blender@mastodon.social really dissappointing. i know money is needed, but even then, AI corpos should never be allowed to come anywhere close to projects used to create art.
you are basically alienating most artists using your software, your core user base. i'm pretty sure you don't really want that, so you should reconsider this decision -

@Blender this is what we call blood money
anthropic makes money off of war crimes
can yall sleep at night knowing that? -
Note: partially reworded the social media announcement so it sounds less tone-deaf about the controversial nature of the membership.
@Blender maybe you shouldn't partner with actual pirates. Read the room. Do you really think that they won't just steal our 3D art now? Because that's the message and very likely the reality. As a company you deserve the bad press over this, no matter how much you justify this.
(Sorry to the maintainer of this account, you probably aren't in a position to change things and it sucks that your whole day will be some variation of this reaction)

@Blender Even if explained in the policy, still find this rather unpleasant. It is not a good reflection to promote Anthropic or their products in this way, and certainly, even if not affecting decision-making, still find it distasteful to accept funding from them.

@Blender You seriously think this is about "tone"?

@Blender I cannot support this decision in any way. Accepting money from Anthropic is quite loaded.... and part of that load is the TNT you are going to toss on the community fostered around growth for Blender
Many artists and creatives have a general negative stance on AI (especially re: generative AI). Many of these artists have been exploited or had thier work training AI without thier consent. To accept Anthropic's blood money directly takes a crap on the entire creative community.
.... and all of that us aside from the environmental damage, and the lives that this will cost. You taking money from AI companies is an endorsement of Fascism and Environmental Destruction Machines

@Blender This is heartbreaking. I hope a fork of Blender takes off because the project clearly isn't in responsible hands.

@Blender Read the f room and cancel the sponsorship.
Microsoft and Facebook are not enough warmonger sponsors for you? -
I can easily find a donate button on their website.
But I can't find a "contact us" page.
I want to ask them how many Gazan babies need to be crushed under rubble, starved, have legs blown off, be blinded, or carried to a hospital by their distraught parents in multiple plastic bags hoping the doctors (who haven't yet been kidnapped and tortured) can sew them back together and bring them back to life ... in order to pay for 2 blender developers?
@rapsneezy2 @Blender you can find some useful email addresses at https://fund.blender.org/contact/ where you can probably send those questions. If you get a reply, share it.

@Blender Well I guess you walked right into that huge pile of
with open eyes and with every intention to actually flop down on your belly and roll around in it while it's still warm and steamy. Enjoy! -

@Blender I am surprised to see that a beloved tool by artists is accepting money from a plagiarism-as-a-service company, which is hurting that community so much. This an impressive way to alienate your users and art-loving donors.
I'll avoid using anything coming by an Anthropic booster, which is what Blender is becoming by having its logo on their page. It seems I'll need to look for an alternative software which respects their community -
