Remember all those tech billionaires who supported Trump? Their software is now getting banned in Europe, because we do not trust the Trump regime.

Really well played Google, et. al.

@randahl I really hope that they experience some real consequences for their actions.

I guess I'm not billionaire material. I've never understood how they never seem to experience "enough" or want to use their influence for actual good.

It's especially puzzling to me that these folks seem to be willing to turn over more power to an obvious Putin wannabe. Have they not heard what happens when an oligarch falls out of favor with Putin? When Putin decides "hey, you have something I want"?

In addition to being cartoonishly evil to back Trump despite all of the evidence that he wants to turn society inside out, it just seems so damn short-sighted. As if they needed to pay even less in taxes?

In a just world, we'd confiscate all of their wealth and nationalize all of the major tech companies at this point.

        @randahl

But suppose Trump gets trounced in the next election and the Dems or Socs (AOC) come to power. Will we all be friends again, or will we have learned something from this? Have our eyes finally been opened, and do we now realise that, besides sunshine, it can also rain in America?

That could spell disaster for the American people, and then at least we will have taken the right precautions. I hope.

@randahl I have long anticipated this danger, having last addressed it in a thread earlier this year. Take Google, for instance: their enduring mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. However, the belief that this universal goal could be reconciled with the demands of specific national contexts has long seemed naive.

@Diana_european I still think most likely there will be elections. Because the alternative is civil war, and I do not think Captain Bonespurs has the same appetite for war as Hitler had. Nor does he have the skills to lead a war or the support from the military.

@randahl whether he is going to war depends on the budget pocket - if someone is paying for it he will do it right away as long as it takes not his money. With even promises of benefits for him, he is puliing the trigger without a 2nd guess. We all know, war can bring benefits to single persons. @Diana_european @bitchboss

Yes. But that’s not the fun part!

                    The fun part is…. TAXES!

We’re not there yet as they are still needed for European defence. But at some point in the near future, the tax revenue will not get IP’d to America.

I would not feel comfortable with our European continent being caught between two autocrats and a Hungarian papucs. Looking at history, there are many possible outcomes, and there have been many idiotic “kings” over the past 1,000 years. In fact, we are just a ripple in a pond. I hope for the best.

For me, the question is not whether there will be elections in the USA in November. Most likely there will be.

For me, the question will be whether there will be accessible elections:

                              1) Will people be disenfranchised?
(not be able to vote while they are entitled to).

                              2) Will there be enough voting stations and capacity?
(during the last elections, some lines were three hours long. Unheard of in the Western democratic world)

                              #USA #Elections
