@timbray A surprising (or maybe not?) amount of tech support these days is cleanup after an LLM does something that does not/cannot work. Unfortunately, "works sort of, some of the time" seems to be the actual *point*.

@timbray I really like Cory Doctorow's centaur/reverse-centaur take (the real Luddite take) because it allows for individual skilled workers to find an AI tool useful while identifying and acknowledging the bad things happening.
So I consider myself neither anti-AI nor an AI booster.
I wouldn't characterize this article as anti-AI.
At least not in the fediverse AI scold way, if you get my drift.

@timbray I have a friend who is all in on AI, and keeps bugging me about it. I think I finally got through to him re: my current project's "challenges", which are organizational in nature, not technical. Internet goes down. Backend is months behind. Firewall issues. Vendor unavailability. And on and on. No amount of AI will help!

@timbray I don’t move in the same types of organizations that he does, but I can definitely speak to encountering managers who are captured by the religious fervor he describes.
Discussion towards mutual understanding is impossible in these cases - it feels exactly the same as arguments between atheists and evangelicals
