    @Peperlito Enfin pour un catholique en France on peut expliquer que c’est contraire à sa religion depuis la dernière encyclique, mais avec la séparation des églises et de l’état le patron répondra sobrement : “je m’en tape”.

    @nholzschuch probablement
    mais si on tente un argumentaire genre objection de conscience même bien laïque/scientifique, l’exemple US apporte un petit soutien appréciable jtrouve

      This is hilarious. After decades where the conservatives pushed for “religious exemptions” based on “sincerely held beliefs”, a Catholic woman working at tech company just won a religious exemption: she won’t have to use AI in her work.

        @nholzschuch she's Universalist Unitarian. As you would know if you had read the article. 😉

                  @nholzschuch She's not Catholic, she's Unitarian Universalist. Catholics could try and use Leo's latest encyclical to follow in her steps and request a faith-based exemption from using AI, but it's not clear that it would be sufficient, as he didn't outright recommend that people don't use AI (whereas UU seems to have stronger principles on which to base such an exemption). So, bit of click baiting here.

                    @krazykitty @nholzschuch The Unitarian aspect is what’s most interesting, because the encyclical stressed the moral concerns about AIs damage to humanity and to the planet. Unitarians generally reject the sparkly magic sky daddy elements of religion instead leaning into ethical and moral concerns.

                      This makes a lot of sense. GenAI is an affront to God and amounts to idoltery.

                      Okay, so does Capitalsim and state power but it's a start.

                                  @nholzschuch This is not funny. It only encourages and legitimises the involvement of religion in the secular world and makes the problems of religious discrimination and religious "solutions" to social issues worse, do not do this.

                                  If you oppose AI that's fine, but it's a secular issue that requires secular solutions, not using a religious hack.

                                    She's not a Catholic woman, by a long shot. The article actually just says that the Pope's encyclical might allow Catholics to claim the same exemptions that she did based on her own religion (Unitarian Universalism, which has discarded any creed in favor of a shared set of ethical & moral agreements).
