I love when literary people go on kerning and font rants.

Sometimes you know something doesn't look right, and can't quite tell why, but they know, and they are ready to tell you.

It is a lot of fun, but a curse at the same time. Because once you learned the rules of typography, you just can't unsee these things.
But I guess that goes for every profession.

@RickiTarr I wish I knew that design language. It’s very interesting.

It's not typography, per se, but I get a bit annoyed when I see quotation marks being "misused".

People, they are not meant to add emphasis. That's why we have bold, italic, and underlines.

It's crazy that there's a science to the art of typography. Little differences make a huge impact on whether it feels right or not.

I don't know, if I've ever seen it, but it's also weird because when talking, you do them with your fingers to add sarcasm. So adding them as emphasis would confuse me even more.
I'd have to think about how I emphasise things here on mastodon, because I can't do the underlines, italic and bold stuff in my web browser. 😔

@RickiTarr sometimes you look at a font and know something doesn't look right and you can't quite tell why, but others you just know a drunken monkey made it and that's the only possible explanation

Oh you mean like the place that sells either:

                  "Good" food

                  Or

                  Good "food"

Nah, hard pass on both. Thanks

I used to like adding in random spaces here and there just to annoy one particular co-worker.

He was also a stickler for double space after a period, which we always removed because it was no longer our standard.

Not sure if that's why he left the company, but I'd like to assume it contributed.

                          @CAWguy

This person would miss deadlines without warning, and half-ass important stuff that needed detailed calculations, but get hung up on fonts and kerning.

Messing with him was petty, but felt necessary at the time. 🙂

@RickiTarr I took a typography class while working on my graphic design degree many years ago. Don't recall much about it now.
