⚠️ Spammers from a site called SocialDB.xyz seem to be flooding Mastodon members with emails claiming to offer sponsorship opportunities (which is dubious to say the least).

️ Spammers from a site called SocialDB.xyz seem to be flooding Mastodon members with emails claiming to offer sponsorship opportunities (which is dubious to say the least). It's probably best to just ignore these emails, report them as spam and do not click on any of their links.
They seem to be getting email addresses from websites mentioned in Mastodon profiles, if the site has a public email address. The spam assumes the linked site belongs to the account owner.
@FediTips
Suggest update the tags to mention it is about spam and scam. To reference easily.
Ohh and yeah I have been getting them too. -
@FediTips Cool, this might be a good time to seed the spam trap on my mail servers...

p.s. SocialDB.xyz also have a website which lists people from various social media platforms and implies that it represents them.
As far as I can tell they don't actually represent anyone, they just scrape profiles and put them on their website. Most of the people listed don't even know they're listed.
Please don't be fooled, no one is being paid to post on here, no one is doing sponsored posts.

@FediTips Pretty much anything using the .xyz TLD is a scam

Yeah, I guess they are scraping anything visible regardless of its status
They are also blatantly lying on their website, they say a "verified status" label is "where a creator connects their own account and opts in" but they've put it on loads of accounts that clearly haven't opted in.

@FediTips Ugh, found a copy of me on there as well. How do I remove that?

@FediTips lol found the one impersonating me, this is super gross.
Thanks for the PSA!What to do about it?

@FediTips I dont even think a sponsored post on here would even work.

I've just used their Contact form, which has a specific tick box for removing a listing, and a reason field where I cited the UK GDPR. -
Yeah, their method is puzzling. They have only listed one of my accounts and it's the smallest one (fedi.garden).
Possibly they've got a queue to work through or something?
I thought at first it was a server setting protecting me, but that would prevent all my accounts being listed, not just some. Seems random really.
Also puzzling why they are focusing on Mastodon so much, they have fewer listings from Tiktok despite it being a much more influencerish platform.
