Tired of these mini-jack cables always breaking at the plug, I'm trying this - bought a solid-looking angled Neutrik jack & soldered it onto one of many working cables with Broken jacks I have lying around.

Even I can't fuck up such a simple simple operation, so it works - now we'll see for how long...

@jwcph
Wiring dying from work hardening sucks. I've replaced many jacks over the years.Something like that orange thingy that distributes the bending over a longer length of wire helps a lot.

@jwcph
I should also mention I've cut into over molded plug bodies, shortened the wires, then replaced the over molded plug body with electronics grade silicone caulk.

@jwcph My daughter had a habit of breaking motherboards on her laptops. A rather expensive habit imho. Problem ended when we got her a laptop with an angled connector for the power supply.

@jwcph soldering those super fine Cables is not easy in my opinion. (But i have done the same) Next thing that breaks is the female Jack stick in the device

@Eka_FOOF_A Yeah, that little 3D printed stress reliever has definitely also relieved some stress from me

@johnrohde Seriously, I have no idea why Apple decided to make the Magsafe straight, when the original, angled version both worked better, because it didn't have to carry the weight of the cable in the magnet's weakest direction, and also didn't break at the plug (it broke at the power block instead, because apparently making something that doesn't break is too tall an order)...

@boab It's not easy - though it went a lot better that I'd feared (you know, because I'm terrible at soldering), not least because I finally got myself a proper "third hand" for holding everything in place & still

@jwcph oh that is a nice device!!! Also did you solder normal Jack Cables, or headphone Cables?

@boab It's an RCA-to-jack cable, if that's what you mean

@jwcph Yes, they are most often of a better and more robust quality. (Headphone wires are made to break, i think)

@boab Totally agree - I'm switching out headphones with about the same frequency...

@jwcph Jeg har købt nogle gamle høretelefoner som jeg var glad for i midt 90erne brugt. Og loddet et stik på, som minder om dit, det var virkeligt svært.

@boab Repair, don't replace, som man siger
