@eniko I was trying to reason .. in an abstract sense .. suppose you'd have a power, that allows you to turn into 'any form you want' an idea you express in words. Would you be 'an artist' at this point ? I think the main difference between that and AI is that 'you leave most of the job to transform the idea into reality to a machine', a machine that is hungry for power, space and resources to feed it that ultimately are the works of others done by years of practicing and thinking. @eniko CONT. the main thing is that it's not YOU doing the process of using knowledge and skills to transform an idea into reality, most of it is done by a machine that 'is not doing a mere machine task' it's replacing a personal/transformative process that a human should take and doing it 'with an algo' that 'doesn't really know what is doing' because AI has no consciousness. I think the problem in this case is you are "delegating too much of your task to a machine". And what if it malfunction

I for one, will not submit to the digital boot stomping down - as much as it is attempted to Trojan horse it through the doors as "just a tool"
That said, it is hard seeing the people you looked up to fall into it. The people you love, relegate to it, not even spending the least amount of effort into you or the relation between you.

I had a coworker send me an LLM-generated email yesterday. I complained about the unreadability and unnecessary padding about it to another coworker, who suggested I *run it through an LLM for a summary*.
I remember being thrilled that I get to do this kind of work. Now it's like trying to work under a cold wet blanket.

@eniko @c0dec0dec0de To be honest, it's not really the work life that hurts the most.
I've had low-wage jobs before. I've also been long-term unemployed. It fucking sucks, but it's survivable - at least here where I am. I can make do on very little if need be - I know this for a fact, because I spent a large chunk of my youth under the relative poverty line.
But the thing I always had that I could hold on to when life sucked was programming. I've been programming since before I knew it even could be a job.
And it's also the one thing I've ever had in my life where I'm not just some disabled fuckup. The one thing that I could actually do that anyone actually valued.
Seeing the value of that plummet to 0 in nearly no time at all has sent me reeling, and I don't know if I can get back up.
