@jrconlin Thank you for the advice. I like the idea of mass adding people then slowly removing if I want to later. Should get some good content. Everyone here has been super helpful, I really appreciate it
-
@IngloGamesDev Thank you for the recommendations and the welcome!
@withinity @IngloGamesDev OH, hi yep welcome!
Other handy thing is just to find someone you think is cool, pull up their following list and just go down it. Odds are decent that someone you think is cool or otherwise respect is, likewise, following cool people.
Oh and Mastodon has no algorithm and people tend to toot less frequently, so you'll likely wanna follow more people than you would on Xitter or whatever, to get a similarly conversational vibe.

[ US centric post ]
"cool nonprofit" is in the eye of the beholder, but in the US, most nonprofits are required to file a tax return called a form 990
eg, if you search for say the Southern Poverty Law center, you find
https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/630598743they have almost US $ one billion in the bank (!!!!) and the CEO is paid almost half a million dollars
so maybe not that cool

@withinity welcome!
I recommend searching hashtags of anything you are interested in. Once you find your people, you can see who they interact with, to see if you are interested in their posts, too. I know nothing of gamedev, except from reading the book Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, by Gabrielle Zevin.
It was easier for me, because I migrated from the birdsite and already knew a lot of people here. I still looked for posts with keywords like art, books, politics, all of the sciences, history, etc. (I have a very wide range of interests.)
I hope you'll stick around. It took me a while to get a great feed, but once I followed enough accounts, it really shaped up. I love how smart, witty, and insightful the people are here. A whole social media platform of people who are well-informed. And almost anyone here will gladly help.

@glassbottommeg Thank you for the advice. I've been off most social media for a while now, but found linkedin way too soul crushing and figured I need to balance it with something.
Also I love your skatebirb game, once I get a job again I'm definitely buying it! Super cute and fun.

@kimlockhartga Thanks Kim Possible :). I plan on being here for a while. There are some really neat people on here.
I am really surprised by how many people suggested people to me. I feel like I have a nice list already

@synlogic4242 If I never saw another advertisement or AI post again I would live a more enriched life.
Hey fellow gamedev veteran! I used to be writing game engines in OpenGL before the xbox sdk came out hahaha. Nice to meet you!

Welcome to Fedi. I only have a small list of follows but @sci_burst do science + culture, including games. @alice is an all-round Fedi star and can be a gateway to lots of others.
@pluralistic is on here and is excellent on all things tech.

@thecasualcritic Less is often more these days. I used to be a scientist! Maybe I still am, but sci_burst sounds cool! The others sound great too thank you
