Oh how we laugh when someone buys an iron on Amazon and the internet bombards them forever after with the names of all the other irons they should buy instead.
-
Just in case, a Fedidendum: I do not buy my irons on Amazon. I buy all my irons at the local shop. I have 117 irons.
I have one iron too and I can't remember the last time I used it

Seems a huge waste of energy just to make ourselves look "presentable" for others.
-
@CiaraNi Fedidendum is such a good word (though it's sad that it is necessary!)
@bright_helpings I knew what I meant myself, but wondered if the word was self-explanatory, so thank you for saying that!

@grb090423 I do not have 117 irons. I have one. Somewhere. I almost never iron. I have often wondered who was the first human who looked at the cloth covering a human body and thought: we need to make that very very smooth. Why, why did that even occur to them.
-
@mlazz They might as well be because I almost never iron. I may or may not have one iron, somewhere.
@CiaraNi@mastodon.green @mlazz@aus.social any old iron

Yes! I've wondered that too. Why? Why would anyone think that? Ah! Unless it's because it's not them having to do the ironing.

@grb090423 @CiaraNi I enjoy ironing but I enjoy the end result even more! I've already put so much effort into my clothes (and towels) being pretty and well made, might as well make them feel and look nicer as well.
I don't judge anyone who doesn't, but... Some people spend hella amounts of money and time on nice coffee, drinks or food, my clothes are SMOOTH and it's very cheap for me in everything but time -

Will result in sad results and waste your time making the thing, the fabrics and seams need to be pressed, and this is the only situation when they absolutely do need to be ironed)

Absolutely! And that sounds like a very logical reason to me

My mother-in-law doesn't understand that I do not like (and rarely ever do) ironing... But that's her problem, not mine.

@grb090423 "Unless it's because it's not them having to do the ironing." I think that's right. I am fairly sure that the person who decided that ironing should be a thing had a servant to do the ironing for them.
-
@hanscees I think I have one iron, but I almost never iron, so I wouldn't swear to that without checking. I like the idea of somebody having 117 guitars, all bought in one shop around the corner. I like the idea of them being played in turn so none of them feel left out.
@CiaraNi I like the idea of now needing to buy 100 guitars more to make you
. I only have 15 or so. All with different sounds of course because I collect sounds really -

I love the result too, just not creating it. With rare exceptions, I choose clothes (I mostly wear dresses) that don't need to be ironed all all or achieve Ironed Look from being hung-dried. Your beautiful hand-made clothes and your style is exceptional - the smooth look is perfect.

@CiaraNi
I read that you have a hundred irons, and I thought "Me too". But you're making a great point about annoying tech surveillance, and I expected you to be an antique iron collector like me.
These are not all of my collection. -
Absolutely! And that sounds like a very logical reason to me

@grb090423 @sinituulia I can absolutely see that this is a stage where ironing is essential.

Not collecting guitars, but collecting sounds - that is a lovely insight.
