The "bovspryd" is the "bowsprit".
Both are from some sort of netherlandish precursor "spret", which was a spear/spyd.@androcat Spyd, spear - I can both hear it and see it. Bovspryd - a bow sprit - it's a great term.

I didn't know the name for that long, beautifully polished wooden pole-ey boom-ey stickey-out bit on the front of the royal yacht. So I couldn't describe it properly in the Alt Text, and said so. Tak and danke and thank you to @pgogl for helping me out here. It is a called a 'sprit'. That name suits it, I think. A snappy spikey spirited sprit. That was a pleasing thing to learn.
