Rooney lodged an objection in January, writing to Mayo County Council that permission for the centre would increase carbon emissions, cause risk of blackouts, and that “climate change represents an immediate & unprecedented threat to our way of life in Mayo and the future of human life round the world.”

@munin Agreed! And good on Mayo County Council for making a decision based on the merits and facts. Local authorities always should, of course, but generative AI data centre facilities seem to have made even sensible politicians and public officials lose their faculties.
