Example:
@Gina i usually go from/to stations without these gates (just the check-in poles which while less annoying, i could still rant about if my instance's character limit was higher) so i don't encounter them often.
and i still had an issue one time where only one side of the gate opened, so i had to squeeze into the station. if i wasn't incredibly underweight i wouldn't have been able to enter, while still having paid for the check-in. -
@Gina On top of that the train ticket prices are disgustingly high in NL. At least the trains are more reliable than the DB (= Germany) ones
@graves501 now now, DB trains are extremely reliable! you can rely on them to be late

It feels a bit salty to complain about turnstiles in the age of flock camera's, but they all suck.

@Gina Dutch public transport started to suck so much after I moved to Switzerland and got used to it here. No gates anywhere ever. No checking in or out ever. Such a breath of fresh air.

Yikes that is hostile enough to discourage people from using tge Metro! Even in Germany we do not have barriers! People are trusted to purchase tickets, and dined if you don't, or purchase the wrong ticket!

@schoentoon it's all just so stupid and oppressive. Like we're all here for such a short time, why are we actively making it worse for everyone.

@Gina This type is particularly bad if you are of limited mobility, slow, and/or are carrying anything, even the special wide ones.
@feorag @Gina yes, I had one try to close on me prematurely once when I was heavily pregnant and apparently not quick enough or something? Another time I accidentally swiped the wrong gate at den Bosch and bought a ticket for the wrong train company (which I didn’t even realize was possible ffs). I arrived in my local station late at night and completely alone and I couldn’t get out. Bloody terrifying (there was a post with an emergency button that I rang and eventually someone let me out).

@Gina And don't forget that they've now got those at some restrooms, too, such as at gas stations.
They beep at you, and apparently expect you to carefully read the instructions while they slowly decide whether that bank card was acceptable, _while you need to pee_! (I found out walking through one after the first beep. I'm heavier than the designer expected, it seems)
