Only answer if you have direct and personal experience please. Is there ANY way on IOS (NOT ON ANDROID) to get Signal to help you clean its massive storage? I've manually tried to delete some large things but it is not helping. It is using 11GB and I can't do a thing anymore. Help?

@bert_hubert I’ve tried, and failed, to do this when I was forced to upgrade to iOS 26. I’ve had to do the “remove but don’t uninstall” thingy. (Sorry, no idea how that’s called in English or Dutch.)

@benjamin @Mer__edith https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-iOS/issues/4916 - the signal people officially do not care. "Get a bigger phone" is probably the solution.

@bert_hubert @benjamin @Mer__edith
The discussion on that thread does not give me warm fuzzies.

@bert_hubert Deleting a chat group releases the storage in my experience (just tested again on a group with loads of pictures). Admittedly not very fine grained.

@bert_hubert misschien weet @AboutSignalNL een 'shortcut' naar iemand met kennis op dat gebied?

@bert_hubert not the anwser you’re hoping for but still: In my personal experience your only option is to delete and reinstall the app. It also might (!) be possible to create an itunes backup, modify the signal db and restore it. But that’s way beyond the reasonable hack threshold (and I haven’t done such shenanigans in years)

@bert_hubert @benjamin @Mer__edith Or buy an SD card

@bert_hubert ...i wonder if the new "Signal Backups" feature might also be part of / working towards this goal - offloading data to the cloud, like how you can do with iCloud data like Photos and Files.
