    I logged into my dashboard tonight via the tunnel. No banner ads. No
    "suggested content" algorithms designed to doomscroll me. No tracking pixels firing off to a data broker in Utah, lol.
    Just my tools, sitting there, waiting.
    We really forgot what the internet feels like when it isn't trying to extract value from us every single second. It’s quiet here. I like it.

      @h333d I’m loving the self hosted journey so far, I don’t have everything set up yet but I’ve kind of been looking at the next service bill as an indicator of what to try to self hosted next, the most recent one was replacing my digital ocean droplet.

      Do you use Tailscale?

        @fufroom I use a hybrid setup:

        **Tailscale** for my **private** mesh. It connects my phone (Pixel 9 Pro, thanks santa ^w^) to my servers so I can access files or SSH in from anywhere without opening ports. It's magic for NAT traversal.
        Consider **Wireguard** if you're more technically inclined, but Tailscale is a great starting point and what I personally use right now.
        **Cloudflare Tunnels** for **public** services (like my website). It hides my home IP address from the open internet.

            @h333d Life is sooooo cool using Free Software, self-hosted tools and NoScript /ublock origin / whatever else blocks the shitty sloppy side of the web.

              @h333d also no “maybe later” instead of “no” in pop-ups

                @h333d I am from the before times, when running your own server was the only way - interesting to see how this feels for people who grew up with doing everything with some online service!
