Our three yr old will be "scientist"* for halloween.
@juliette will produce a white overcoat with name tag etc.
As glas beakers with dodgy liquid are a no-no I'll produce some electronic handheld gadget with flashing lights and sounds ("Bzzzz bzzzzz science.. SCIENCE!!!").
Anything else a three year old scientist needs?
*as apparently other three year olds would not vibe well with "borg drone" or "owl borg drone".

If you use vanilla, keep the tubes?
Or see if you can get something similar somewhere? They're plastic. For the real science feel get e.g. these:

Perhaps red cabbage as indicator and some household items? (Lemon, egg whites, soft drinks)

Oh!! And while you're at it, obviously some glasses
For the adults (will probably make the hobbit look a bit dorky, because they're too big)

@Pepijn @juliette you can go the archeologist or paleontologist angle and give them a small spade, brush and magnifying glass as accessories, or the chemist angle and go for safety glasses, you could repurposed those round plastic 'make your own baubles' things you find in many a craft store into little round bottom flasks and since they tend to have lids and are carried on a string it could be a necklace style prop. And instead of going down the food dye, which is a pain to get out of clothes if something breaks, I would suggest just using squash/lemonade, milk, flat soda etc. as different 'chemicals'

Thanks for all the suggestions. We're saving them all

We might not take all of it this year though. Daycare for (barely) 3yr olds is an authoritarian nanny state. No long ropes, no glass, no items reusable as a blunt weapon (clipboard, metal framed magnifying glasses) etc.
In 2025 the hobbit was a Hobbit. In true-to-scripture fashion the ring I crafted became a object of envy with various hobbits fighting over it, and our hobbit shouting "mine!". It was stored away soon after arrival.
