It's been a year since I was made redundant. I've failed spectacularly at contracting. I'm looking for employment. I'm an experienced IT Operations Specialist. I have DevOps, agile, and management experience. Based in South Yorkshire. I'm going to try out requesting help on the fediverse. #GetFediHired

@andyd I have deployed to kubernetes using helm, and have run test clusters. Unfortunately not run large scale production clusters, but I am adaptable and have built my career on technical understanding.

@pmb00cs good luck. My job went last summer and yeah, contracting really wasn't a goer as a temporary solution for me either, no bites.

I got a job in the end, hope you do too.

@pmb00cs a friend of mine works for a consulting outfit who are recruiting ops roles (tried to get me to go for one, but I really like the company I'm working for atm)

They might be worth a spin?

@pmb00cs Totally get that and I don't know how I will cope with my (inevietable) first accident with such an idiot, but I'm trying to keep the mindset "It's the idiot's fault, not mine"

@pmb00cs Thanks, I do hope so as well.

However, chances of it not happening are slim. Statistically speaking it should be once in ten years. I did a whole shift with a train driver as a ride-along and hi told me he had two in six years.

Best I can hope is that I remain fit to work after.

Good luck finding a new job, may the Fediverse help, these are such terribly difficult times. So, the only thing I can do is send you this little text, and boosting your message to promote you. You have a cat on your shoulder, which helps 😊

I have one with claws as well, but he doesn't use them to defend himself against the young'un, sadly. He is too sweet, and restricts the nails to when I pick him up to cuddle, after which they come out without him even noticing. But I may soon trim them again, as I do with his younger buddies.

@pascaline I do blame the wife! She was leaving the conservatory open with food in it. The cat moved in and had kittens. At that point the only humane thing to do was get mum and kittens checked out by the vet and ensure all was well. We found homes for the kittens, but mum never moved out. The other cat was stepdaughter's fault. That's a less interesting story though.

Neither of them miss an opportunity to point out I'm the one with all the cat pictures.

You even have one in your profile pic!

And what a good story, great that the kittens all have good homes now. At some point in my life I had four cats because I took in a stray after putting up posters and checking with organisations with the result 'he's nobody's cat'. So, I took him in. He was the sweetest, most innocent one I ever had. Never had a sweeter, gentler cat. He is now integrated with my soul, as all the others that left my life.
