    @howtophil @witchgirls @zzt mhm many such examples --

if digital games or streaming are "the future" you wouldn't need to force them onto us, and constantly tell us it is, if capitalism was human nature you don't need to enforce it, if gender cant change you dont need to ban it, if gender roles are the natural state of things- you dont need to segregate, etc.

@witchgirls @zzt the other funny bit is that I don’t have to spend that $20

I don’t have to spend it because I’ve been reviewing the code of people who’ve spent far more than that on it

and oh boy does it fucking suck

@froztbyte @witchgirls in a world where we banned leaded gas (far too late mind you) and vast swaths of useful but harmful drugs (and not just the recreational ones) and doping in organized sports, surely AI is untouchable

@witchgirls @zzt I mean we learned about this in anti-drug awareness week.

FOMO: "They don't want you to know this, but you can do stuff with PDFs with this one weird trick."

Intimidation: "Buy ChatGPT tokens, or I will kidnap and starve your dog."

Dominance: "You will use the chatbot, if I see you doing stuff yourself, you will face me."

Bargaining: "I can quit when I want to. Here, how about this... You write a prompt to help me for class, and I'll stop after I turn it in."

Hazing: "If you don't write a prompt, you're not getting your pants back. Use AI or walk home in tighty whiteys."

Bandwagon: "We're all using it, and we're perfectly fine."

Sex Appeal: "Hot guys are prompt engineers. Help me, prompt daddy!"

(I can't believe I just wrote that... prompt daddy. FML.)

@froztbyte @witchgirls @zzt AI would be notably less of a problem if they weren't actively getting support from the government.
Not only can you regulate it, literally doing nothing would help.

this is an extremely important read, even if you don’t care about the Rust game engine Bevy.

anti-AI policies are broadly popular, and pro-AI policies destroy communities. this article is an excellent summary of a project going from an apparent (but not actual) anti-AI stance to a pro-AI one, on the false pretenses that AI boosters were subject to harassment and witch hunts. those false pretenses are already common, and you’re going to see them a lot more soon because this is a playbook.

@zzt People trampling over each other's expertise has been the #1 constant every time LLMs and game dev are mentionned. Someone will loudly declare "Oh, we could use the bot to do X" and I'm not sure they even realise there's someone in the room for who X is their expertise and how violent of a statement that is toward them.
If mounting bugs and burn out don't destroy your game, social corrrosion between different jobs will.

I hate the "unenforceability" defence slopists use against these policies. At work we were pushed away from using the "absolutely no AI" category for assessments, for exactly this reason

Yes, all crimes are essentially unenforceable if the criminal is not caught! The answer is obviously not to legalise all crimes. (And besides, most of the time it is blatantly obvious when someone has used it)

The point of a policy is really to outline a set of expectation and a group ethos. If someone chooses to deliberately break the policy, they must be conscious of the fact that they do not align with the group and should probably fuck off

also, it’s important to point this out: Bevy went from an apparently anti-AI but in practice centrist policy to a policy that’s being presented as centrist but is in practice extremely pro-AI

if you wanted a worked example of why centrist AI policies are horrible, this is it

@zzt I learned Rust for employability awhile back and never stopped hating it. Maybe that was instinct, or maybe a warning from my future self. Imagine if I'd tried to get back into gamedev, and had a Bevy-based project I cared about. I'd be so pissed right now.

@MaddieM4 I legitimately liked Rust til it got flooded with Palantir guys then AI boosters

bevy was cozy and fun to write games in, and it was exciting to imagine doing, say, Tribes netcode hooked up to the bevy ECS

it’s not that cozy or fun now, unfortunately
