That's weaksauce.
I had to write my own text editor before I submitted my final project.
Finished by 1AM, the editor.
The assignment was due at 9AM.I passed.
True story: I bought Commodore 128 that week and had no software.

@neurovagrant Reminds me on my exams for my A level. After I screwed up the writen exam about german literature (about a book I absolutly love and have read multiple times) I volunteered for the oral exam. That was then about a book I have never read. Got 14 points of 15 available

@neurovagrant S'true. Some of the most important skills being lost are tactical laziness and strategic bullshittery. And you gotta know where the line is so you can get riiiiight up to it without going over.

@neurovagrant I have a copy of a mathematics exam from 2002 on which we had to write a 4–5-pager. The subject:
Why is √7 irrational?
I...failed that one.
I teach now, it is getting harder and harder to get students to write 300 words.

5 page essays were one questions in our exams. If an essay was the entire assignment we had to do 20 to 100 pages, single spaced, handwritten.

I remember essays that had to be a certain number of pages and making periods a slightly larger font size to make it longer.

@neurovagrant I went to a liberal arts school. By the time I graduated I could go to the library at 10am and rip out a full essay by 4pm
@adx @neurovagrant Same, except I would tend to do it from 10pm to 4am.

I don’t know who decided to meme my specific teenage experience so directly but…
@neurovagrant Reader's Digest was the equivalent of AI in those days.

I can relate
and I’m still in school
Granted, my “high school” years were long before Ai even showed up, not to mention that a “school computer” was still quite a novelty for the rural school districts. But there is something to be said about having enough “knowledge” about certain subjects that you don’t have to read the material to be able to write about it !

So, no time to read the material for the assignment. Respect.
