Since February 2025, Trump has sanctioned nine ICC judges in the Hague.

They have been unable to use their Visa credit cards, they cannot use Google, Apple, Amazon, or any other American service.

This is one man trying to intimidate the court system recognized by 125 nations, because his friend Netanjahu is not allowed to carry out a genocide.

    Madness!

@randahl What it shows above all else, is the dependency on U.S. companies for financial transactions, if this isn't a wake up call, I don't know what is.

@wordstitcher @randahl sadly there is not alternative to payment cards (debit/credit) you would be able to user globally not even in EU itself only. And digital euro is far far far away in future. The rest is somehow replaceable, this not, yet.

@jan @wordstitcher @randahl Even if in the "worst case" I had to keep one US card for travel, until there's a truly global alternative, I'd still be making 95% of my transactions with a European card. So that's fine.

But I wouldn't underestimate what Europe can do: we're a much bigger market than the US.

The EU banks are already working on the needed systems. I've met people from the UK's City of London, who are working on the contracts for creating this. The City operates internationally, so won't be tied to any single power block.

And the EU countries are realising that even when Trump is voted out, the USA will still want the un-balanced power-relationships that only benefit the USA.

@BillySmith unfortunately they are taking their time to make things interoperable with a physical card (with apps it already works, with online payments too, even if fragmented).
As for not trusting the US? After Trump got elected (the very next day) me and some friends started leaving US tech, products and services. I ended the transition by March 2025, our companies and personal contracts, pooled, meant a loss of at least 3M€/year for US companies. Personally, I have paid around 180€ for US products or services since November 6th 2024 (because of contracts ending in March 2025).
And we're not going back even if Trump and his ilk go away. Not until the USA pays for all they've done and they show us, in no uncertain terms, that they have reformed themselves (major political, legal and judicial changes). Just like with russia, it isn't going to be "business as usual" right after the madmen go away, at least not for me and many others.

A terror state that doesn't pay it's UN dues and isn't even a member of the ICC gets to destroy international law? Appears the axis of terror has won, as democracy failed to even show up to the battle.

@randahl Hey, Valdimir Putin is right here, and resents being forgotten. And also, the US right wing has been trying to weaken the ICC for ages. They basically don't think 'war crimes' is a valid concept.

Because they don't want any accountability such as being tried by the ICC for their crimes.

Let's not forget that the US have been on the ICC eyes many times.

The main reason the US is not in it is because they not want to be bound by international law.

The current president have already violated it so many times that his hate for the ICC is not surprising at all. By ICC standards, he should be in jail.

@randahl I have good news for all of you:
The Netherlands is building its own desktop based on Linux and will deliver this to all offices of government and administration.

The Netherlands learned from this lesson. When will the other EU countries follow?

Since February 2025, Trump has sanctioned nine ICC judges in the Hague.

They have been unable to use their Visa credit cards, they cannot use Google, Apple, Amazon, or any other American service.

This is one man trying to intimidate the court system recognized by 125 nations, because his friend Netanjahu is not allowed to carry out a genocide.

                                Madness!

When those judges get their hands on Trump and Netanyahu they will have grudges.

                                Good.

@randahl I would love to see the ICC member states sanction all companies who are complying with these decrees by non-member states.

@randahl Fortunately, the impact of the #US is rapidly declining internationally. Credit transactions are processed by Lloyd's, Barclay's, and BNP.?

It's coming. The US is not going to control money for much longer. Their debt is enormous and they're a poor investment risk.
I use Interac in Canada for transfers and some payments. Cards are so last century. Everything is digital now. We can do better. Debit cards services must be expanded. Every bank has one.
But we must get our data off US servers first, or none of this will mean a damn.

@randahl Note that it's not because someone else wouldn't do it himself. This is because he had good accomplices helping him being elected to that role.
Let's never forget that it's not like his narrative to be there as the only man in command.
Had him to disappear tomorrow, or loose midterm, would you really believe *everything* to change?
