@kottke There is a Far Right affliction that insists that privatization will always be more cost effective than govt. Having worked in govt >25 years this is really a mixed bag. In fact, no private entity could turn a profit if it was saddled with the accountability requirements of most govt agencies. Period, no question. Privatization only works if there is no expenditure to see that fraud & abuse isn't rampant.
But Business men always know better...

Another key feature of privatization is that it bypasses a lot of restrictions we place on governments. If the government runs an adoption agency, it can't discriminate. If it contracts adoptions to a religious organization, they can. If the government wants to spy on you, it has to get a warrant. If Flock spies on you, the government can buy the information with no restrictions. And so on. -

@kottke Absolutely! Government provides for the general welfare of the public. Business earns profit. Two very difference sectors with very different fiduciary duties. The Prospect article didn't mention Booz Allen Hamilton who runs recreation[.]gov--and takes most of the fees to pay dividends to their shareholders. Argh! 🤯

@kottke Agreed. Our government was run pretty damn efficiently. What the crazies called the deep state was actually the administrative state who were administering all the government programs that work for Americans.

Yeah right.The Far Right fails at the basics. The government is not supposed to be profitable. It's supposed to be effective.
They want to privatize because they believe "serving all the people" is a defect of the government, not its purpose. Once they privatize and are no longer saddled by oversight and bureaucracy, they can start excluding and exploiting all the "other" without consequences.
