i have a pinned post that doesn't show up anymore
i tried pinning it/ unpinning it again: nope
i tried pinning and unpinning others posts: fine
it still shows up on the mobile app as pinned, but not the web
-
no it's not that
i have indeed tried that as well
i'm going to mull it over, think if i forgot anything stupid (which while not what you have indicated, it's possible i missed something else obvious) then potentially file a bug report

it's very strange. it's something about this one particular post. because it's a reply? because it has embedded video?
it's public, i checked that
i'll puzzle over it

interesting
i did do some tests like:
find another post of mine with embedded video: pins fine
find another post that was a reply i made (EDIT: to my own post, perhaps an excluding criteria): pins fine
but if you are having flakiness too in this domain there could be something to it

followup:
you got it!
i pinned the comment above and it does not show up on the new web ui profile (but does show up on the mobile app)
i'm going to file a bug report and reference this thread
maybe the criteria is a reply nested deep/ a reply to someone else

@benroyce Interestingly, if I have a column for my profile open, I'll see the new pin immediately when I make it. If I then view something else and then re-open my profile, it won't be visible anymore (the show replies toggle doesn't seem to affect this behaviour). Also on the web app (don't have a mobile device to check the mobile app with) @Mastodon

so this post of yours is the one i'm linking in the bug report, since you have further info on behavior/ conditions

i just had a thought:
perhaps the mastodon team did this on purpose?
on the rationale that pinning a reply to someone else can be construed as a harassment vector
which is fine
but we should know if so

@benroyce @Mastodon Absolutely, there's nothing about pinning and replies documented that I can see https://github.com/mastodon/documentation/blob/main/content/en/user/discoverability.md
If that's the case though, then the fact that pinning reply will immediately appear on my profile if I already have a column with it open must be a bug. Feels like there's something unintended happening either way.

yeah that makes sense: appear/ disappear smells like a bug, not policy

@gunchleoc @imanijoy @kayrah87
It's a little niggle and I like Mastodon otherwise, including the instance I'm on (I have a small monthly DD donation running to support it). I'd be very reluctant to start over somewhere else.

@Mastodon I like how it became easier to edit profiles and switch off boosts. The 'Following you' badge seemed logical and informative. The fact that the same info now requires a treasure hunt is puzzling.
I have no suggested featured hashtags. My Featured menu states I haven't set any hashtags, which doesn't reflect the reality; I have. They are hovering above my Activity with no label of what they are. -

@kevinbowen @jandi great insights, both. Thanks for the feedback! @Mastodon

but I NEED a search bar for my bookmarks, hashtags, favorites and profile posts. A sorting filter for posts on a profile as oldest, newest, popular (based on the most boosts, comments and quoted posts)
