Coming soon in Mastodon 4.6 - a redesigned profile page.

@jeremyjackson @Gamrok @Mastodon thank you, and we're certainly taking this into consideration.

-
@katzentratschen @Mastodon Maybe there is a reason I don't use any other social network (despite having accounts on them because I prefer having than allowing someone to impersonate me again).
That being said, isn't your argument Argumentum ad populum?

@Mastodon The handle explainer card is good. IMHO it's the handle/server thing was/is one of the hardest things to understand and explain.

@Mastodon
When do we get search that works? -
@katzentratschen @ClearlyClaire @frumble
@katzentratschen On the contrary! It was designed mobile-first, but factoring in the importance of other page content as well. For visible content in paragraph form, we encourage the use of the bio itself.
Thank you for your feedback!
@imanijoy @ClearlyClaire @frumble Thanks for your reply. I don't use this section in my own profile, but I've seen a lot of accounts getting quite creative with its headings and content. I'm not sure if they'll appreciate to use the bio section instead. It's similar to the discussion about pinned posts in a carousel. (Personally, I usually scroll to recent posts without reading bios or pinned posts.)

@katzentratschen @ClearlyClaire @frumble that's completely understandable. We're a small team maintaining a software that must work for millions, which means we're entrusting the community to be understanding of some compromises here and there. We appreciate it!

@Mastodon I really admire the Mastodon team’s commitment to transparency. Their official updates are consistently professional and reflect a team that is deeply passionate about their decision-making process.

@Mastodon I don't like the added friction for adding personal notes, which I do very frequently, almost every time I look at a profile.

I can't use mastodon as my primary social media yet because the ui and ux are still not Facebooky enough to entice my family and friends over from facebook.
-
@katzentratschen @frumble yes, i was referring to that; right, it's a click, but before that, the sentence simply wasn't available to be shown fully; it doesn't cut off earlier than it did, it just allows you to see it in a more convenient way when it does
@ClearlyClaire @frumble It's definitely an improvement. Just not the one I was hoping for. Thanks for your reply!

@kayrah87 this has been on my mind as well – in fact, I addressed in in my talk last week at FOSS Backstage design. I'd love to hear your thoughts in more detail sometime.
-
@wordsmith @Mastodon these are the real questions!
-
@Mastodon Could you make an option to display the "You follow each other" resp. "Follows you" badge on the profile page, please? Preferably more (!) prominent than it was before you've removed it.
@katzentratschen Agreed!
I also rated this lower on my list of what I look for when it comes to "trust and interest", but only because the other signals are more important to me.
I still want to see this information.

@Mastodon But loving the more compact custom fields, those look great!

@Mastodon you are aiming at lower tech users and are adding the local server regardless of whether it's the one of the viewer.
1 - how does this impact the user experience if they browse a post and try to boost it? or follow while viewing on a server not their own?
2 - it might be good in the tool tip to call out iff the server matches that of the user and say "this person's posts will show up in your local feed". (I'm not sure how to phrase it to be clear and not clutter, but that matters) -

I find the tiny space we're allocated on the left side to write posts and replies very off putting. It's too small and feels strange having to focus on the side of my screen instead of the centre. I find myself leaning to the left when I'm writing to correct for that, which isn't comfortable. Would prefer something in the middle and also inline when replying to others.
Thanks, J.
