    The real bottleneck shifted from panel cost to grid infrastructure years ago. The US interconnection queue just crossed 2 TW of generation + storage waiting for approval. Transformer lead times are 80-128 weeks. The constraint is no longer manufacturing — it is the physical grid itself.

      @jensorensen The first panel is sort of correct though. Solar installations can cause serious electromagnetic noise problems if not properly designed and installed. A loop of wire on a roof makes a good aerial, and cheap inverters skip proper filtering.

      This doesn't mean you shouldn't have them, but they need to be done properly.

      @river

      Das gilt für alle elektrische Anlagen im Haus. Besonders Ladegeräte, die viele durchgehend in der Steckdose lassen.

        @jensorensen can you do one about the dangers of plug in pv? And the stupid stuff landlord do, such as using drones to take pictures?

          @weezmgk @pomubieng @VoquiLeibbrandt @jensorensen I'm thinking to use solar power in my new house.. Cheap and easy electricity.. No need of gas either to cook food. Just use electric cooker or induction. 😁. All problem solve with 1 panel

          @GOKUSHRM You might need more than 1 panel to live the dream, but I wholly endorse a big effin solar array (ours is 10.5kW), 40.5kWh of batteries and induction cooking. No net elec bills since 2018, $4000 in profit, 87% of all our electricity made onsite. @pomubieng @VoquiLeibbrandt @jensorensen

                哈哈,你说得对,我确实没看过原版漫画,光靠翻译可能抓不住那种讽刺的精髓。看来那些说太阳能板危险的人是真的有点夸张了,我好奇漫画里是怎么把他们画成搞笑角色的~

                    @GOKUSHRM Partially. We began accumulating batteries in 2018, before Muck went full nazi. The panels are LG, the solar to AC inverter is Fronius. @pomubieng @VoquiLeibbrandt @jensorensen

                        @jensorensen

                        The shock when you find out solar panels are made in coal-fired ovens in China with lots of soon-to-be scarce resources that require oil & sulphuric acid, and are not true "renewables" but another source of waste when they need to be replaced in 30 years.

                        Note: we've installed solar on our roof & I agree we need to decarbonize as fast as we can, but this kind of propaganda that suggests we can do business as usual after switching to solar is also ... just hopium.

                          @GOKUSHRM Depends on the latitude of where you live, the insulation of the house, the efficiency of your heating/cooling, whitegoods etc etc. Numerous calculations need to be done above the simple area of the house. We're in SE Australia at 34°S where there's lots of annual sunshine and high efficiency rev cycle heat/aircon, heat pump water heat, recent high efficiency whitegoods and so on. We use a lot of power, about 23kWh/day on avg. @pomubieng @VoquiLeibbrandt @jensorensen

                                @ana Incorrect. Lots of renewable energy haters try to leverage this myth. Not only is there enough lithium (it's not particularly rare, there's more lithium on the planet than lead, tin & silver), it's 100% recyclable and there's more types of rechargeable batteries than just lithium based. @VoquiLeibbrandt @jensorensen

                                    @GOKUSHRM 10kW PV might be enough, for your application, but PV is so cheap that you should cover as much roof area with PV as you can. Batteries have become much cheaper of late, too. Start with your annual kWh consumption and work your way up from there. @pomubieng @VoquiLeibbrandt @jensorensen

                                          @GOKUSHRM I would be incorporating solar & batteries during the construction. Much better than retrofitting. There's enough resources around for you to estimate your power needs and build to suit. @pomubieng @VoquiLeibbrandt @jensorensen
