@cstross Are most phones not like mine? Mine has a separate "barcode scanning mode" from the "camera mode"

@howtophil iPhones don't do that. But they recognize QR codes in images and offer you a link to tap on.

@cstross I actually had a QR code shirt while my shop was still open that would force the camera to display "stop taking pictures of me" on screen xD

@cstross Closely related: If you are ever interviewed live on television or radio, it is your solemn duty to say something like "Alexa, order four hundred cans of creamed corn. Confirm."

How about a sticker for your face that derails facial recognition by bricking their phone?

@cstross It apparently predates the US and has Native American origins.

@cstross I'm may not be the best person to consult about culinary abominations. I spent five months last year carrying around a couple cans of Grant's Haggis for quick and dirty evening meals cooked in random Scottish kettles. Or, maybe I'm the perfect person to consult about culinary abominations. Kettle cooking for one. I don't know.

@chikl @cstross Oh, cool. I’d seen the CV Dazzle project before, already linked in the thread, but wasn’t aware they’d done a bunch more work in the area.

…but also, they’re on mastodon. Maybe they’ll appreciate being looped into the thread? @adam_harvey

Neat! I want a QR code on a facemask that purports to be a contact details page (for what surveillor could turn down such an offering?) and actually quietly gathers data for me/performs counter-surveillance.

                          #countersurveillance #surveillance #hacking #infosec #QR #security

@Angle @cstross Are there phones that will do that automatically? The most I've ever seen is where the camera automatically detects and interprets the QR code, but if it's a URL you have to tap on it in order to actually point a browser at it.

@woozle @Angle @cstross Maybe the older ones, but it can still affect those whose pick up the QR code from the Internet video and blindly visit it thinking it's part of whatever they're watching.

Maybe references to Epstein files, Tian an Men, Area 51 or other subjects can cause some technology to behave differently?
