Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych's father, Mykhailo, sitting near the start house, broke down in tears when the IOC disqualified Vladyslav from Milano Cortina 2026 minutes before his first run on 12 February.

The decision was announced because the athlete refused to remove a helmet bearing portraits of Ukrainian athletes killed in Russia's war against Ukraine.

Ukraine's FM Andrii Sybiha called it "a moment of shame" for the IOC.

@EuromaidanPress It is total shame, but this is the third time I have seen a mention of this awful misjudgement in a very short time, so I hope this goes viral! Personally I have boosted it each time and will do so again. This kind of despicable behaviour is very much the kind of thing happening lately 🤬

I now call IOC Institute of Crapheads.

                  Absolutely disgusting support for russia.
