"#NewZealand MPs who performed #haka in parliament given unprecedented punishment
#TePātiMāori co-leaders and youngest member to be temporarily suspended from #parliament after performance protesting controversial bill"
The bill in question (the #TreatyPrinciplesBill) wanted to reinterpret the #TreatyOfWaitangi (1840), which upholds #Māori rights
The bill was defeated
I think the proper response to a bullshit punishment for protecting #MāoriRights is a lot more hakas

yup
if we tolerate intolerance intolerance grows and tolerance shrinks
large swaths of the world will come to learn this lesson
hopefully the easy way
countries like mine, the USA, look to learn it the hard way
that someone is being "uncivil" in response to serenely delivered disrespect is merely a trick
tolerance is the baseline
without it, nothing is possible
certainly not civility
thus you want to support those who become "uncivil" in response to disrespect

the biggest lie in our current world is that a forceful response to intolerance is the problem
that the intolerance is delivered "politely", "civilly", "lawfully" is merely the setup to the trick
then the bigot can clutch their pearls and go "see! see!" at the response to intolerance, as a ruse to be even more bigoted
millions upon millions fall for this trick
the test of our time is that enough of us learn that civility is not the baseline
tolerance is the baseline
