@georgetakei By the way: On German TV the vulcan greeting was translated to »Lebe lang und in Frieden« - what re-translated would be »Live a long and peaceful life«.

Sixty years ago today, the starship Enterprise launched and with it, a vision of the future where humanity had moved beyond its divisions. I was there at the beginning, and I can tell you: we never imagined how far that dream would travel, into homes, into hearts, into the way generations imagined what we could still become. In a world that often feels as divided as ever, maybe that's exactly why we need it now: a reminder that unity was always the point.

@georgetakei thank you so much for taking me on your journeys, some 40 years ago and also today. The worldview and philosophy of Star Trek were and still are a great influence on my life and I'm very grateful for that. Also, it's always been excellent entertainment.

@georgetakei well kind of funny how the nation where the show originated decided that they don't want to follow the core premise of the show and instead want to be the ferengi.

@georgetakei For everyone's amusement, as I recall, the person who ran the ARPANET NIC (Network Information Center, the predecessor of today's domain registries) had a sign outside her office that said "Smokers will be handed over to the Klingons."

@georgetakei I just want to thank you all for being such a positive influence in my formative years and beyond. Trek taught me a lot about how to be decent. Forever grateful and much love to you all.

@georgetakei I love Star Trek, and have seen every episode dozens of times. I am sure, however, that they teach all cadets in Starfleet Academy to add alt text to their pictures.
