A heroin junkie who bombs his dealer in the name of heroin supply independence is no basis for foreign, or drug policy. An American energy policy focused on getting clean is how you fix this. No one with an EV is exposed to the junkie’s risk, after all. https://x.com/atrupar/status/2032851549546840312?s=61

US gasoline demand has been flat for nearly 2 decades. That’s because of higher vehicle efficiency and EV penetration. These are Americans saving money. Why the hell are the Trump WH - and his GOP enablers spending $1B per day to fund a bad and dying habit?

Similarly, if you have PV on your roof you cut your exposure to electric price volatility. If you have good insulation and well-caulked, high performance windows you cut your natural gas exposure. Living a clean life keeps you out of Hormuz AND makes you richer.

The challenge has always been that access to cheap / free energy is like access to dividend income: you need a bit of seed capital to make the initial investment that provides permanent future dividends. And when the average US household only has $8000 in the bank, that’s a barrier.

@SeanCasten It's stunning that demand for gasoline has been so flat considering that we've had SUVs foisted upon us and they've been making these monsters larger and larger.

Addressing that inequity was the core premise of the Inflation Reduction Act. Tax credits to lower the upfront cost that were transferable so that folks who didn’t pay taxes could still get them. And it was working. To the benefit of US consumers and the detriment of fossil fuel producers.

@SeanCasten Another problem is that with PV-based generation, there is no stream of recurring revenue to an "energy supplier" and in the US that's a non-starter. We can't have people creating their own energy, how would the "energy industry" make money ?

When the GOP broke the IRA, they *INTENTIONALLY* screwed lower income Americans by taking away their ability to shake their oil addiction. When they ramped up LNG exports and invaded Iran, they jacked up the street price of oil & gas.

If this was about energy independence or “energy dominance” we’d be prioritizing the most ubiquitous energy sources in America - solar, wind, geothermal and efficiency. To state the obvious, it ain’t about that.

It’s about one street corner dealer trying to take out a competitor by stealing their supply chains in Iran and Venezuela so they can jack up the price. Curtis Mayfield knew the type. https://youtu.be/hCDAfa-NI-M
