For folks that were around when @ThePSF was working back in 2009 on updating its formal mission statement and drafting its explicit diversity statement at https://www.python.org/psf/diversity/ and wondering what the big deal was, days like today are the reason steps like those matter.
Declining funding because it comes with coercive conditions that go against your documented ethical principles is hard enough. It becomes even harder if those principles *haven't* already been explicitly stated.
