Why the fuck does JK Rowling now have an issue with A-Sexual people, the least offensive people on the whole sexual spectrum, because they're fucking A-Sexual.

You old hag, why do you care about any of this stuff, you've got millions upon millions, why do you sit in your rotten damp castle obsessed with other people's genitals and what they do or don't do with them? Like fucking hell, go spend some of your money and have a holiday you piss poor, irrelevant, shit, children's writer.

because there's two approaches to criticism
1. rational, honest ignorance:
you get it. you think about it. you accept it or reject it. you move on with your life
2. emotional, willful ignorance:
you feel attacked. you dig in. you get more criticism. you double down. you wear your error with pride. you extend your attacks. you make your error part of your identity
we're all ignorant of something
we all say something wrong
some of us reflect and grow
some rot and fester

@benroyce @limneticvillains From what I've seen and experienced, that defensiveness comes from trauma. Which is not to excuse it, but to say that "just stop doing that" isn't a useful approach. "Own your shit" is more realistic - a confrontational response as it should be, which acknowledges that the person will need to do hard work to be able to behave appropriately in public.

and we're not talking about someone young, abused, nor stressed
we're talking about a contented, successful author
she demonstrates in her writing emotional intelligence, wit, an exquisite cognitive skillset
so there isn't forgiveness nor understand for #jkrowling
whatever the backstory that led to her #bigotry, the explanation not the excuse as you say:
that she can't get over it, and doubles down, is not tragedy
it's a disgusting betrayal of her humanity

Neither explanation nor excuse: her ugliness, and it's very ugly, is in her refusal to own her shit.
As you point out, if anyone in the world has access to good trauma therapy, it's her.
Her choice is that she refuses to learn an acceptable way of dealing with it.

the cycle of abuse also has endings and beginnings
some took great abuse, and didn't dish it out on others. to their great credit
but there are also those, like #jkrowling, who *start* the cycle of abuse
there is no backstory, none whatsoever, that justifies her turn to loud forceful #bigotry
she is a genuine monster
we need to understand people, yes
sometimes we see how they are a victim as well
but sometimes that understanding means seeing a true villain
