Everyone has a different definition of profits but historically, 10% on your investment is reasonable.
I'm aware of many private Trust funds that are sitting on 3000 to 5000% profits plus dividends because of the maturity of the assets. -

It seems obscure whose efforts are promised by a unit of Cryptocurrency.
Also, what happens if such a promise is not kept, and who causes it to happen?that's easy

of this large crowd of gullible rubes enthusing about some tech thing. ok... but why are they so enthusiastic?
that's psychology: they invested their time and energy and money, and all they have is waiting, so they do this weird hype circus
until what?
until the third person who understands what's going on, the grifter, does their rug pull, and walks away with a tidy sum

@navi it seems like scooters had a modest impact, probably mostly offsetting personally owned bicycles. I don’t think they’ve come anywhere close to “changing how cities work” (the supposed promise of the segway). A thing can be successful without being “revolutionary”.
@mattblaze Scooters, at least in my area, aren't changing much, even though we're seeing more of them.
Biggest impact seems to be the amount of injuries people are being seen for. Kind of like this decade's high impact aerobics, or yoga.

the con artist arrived late, and heard: "what you do is hype something, people buy a bunch of it, the price goes up, you rug pull millions or billions, and the gullible marks get ash in their mouth, and somehow never learn"
and the con artist said: "great! sign me up!"

it has no applications, besides as a casino whose selling point is tech hype. it's 2026: nothing useful, nothing large scale, has been adopted from #cryptocurrency. people thought it was a new internet
it started out full of dreams, which is fine. normal. noble even
but there's a lot of that in tech: dead ends
and all cryptocurrency offers now is this endless hype and nothing but harvesting money from the impressionable
@benroyce Have you no respect for the Iranian proclamation that they'll take payments in crypto for passage in Hormuz? (If you don't want to pay in renminbi.)

any movement in crypto drives hype. so just the bare act of large sums flowing through it drives up the price
thus, criminal and shadowy elements *love* crypto. instead of receiving funds, they often receive funds, and a profit
it's funny because unlike a suitcase full of cash, crypto is pseudonymous
you can see all transactions. and potentially connect that to a real person/ org

The major US brokerage corporations like Schwab, all offer access to Crypto sales. The only accounts that are unable to invest in Crypto is Trust accounts and that will be the last barrier.

The crucial changd, if if happens, is to car ownership. Already I think less than 50% in inner London concentrated in low income groups (78%) who primarily use puic transport - bus fares are just £1.75. Rental e-bikes are not cheap so are additionally helping make car ownership an option amongst young professionals.
Hence they may be the tipping point to car ownership being reduced to a small minority in inner London. Wifh the transformation of road infrastructure to reflect demand pushing it harder in a virtuous circle.
.Importantly it is looking like a generational change to the blight that was cars in London.

well yes. but what you're describing to me is financial instruments are allowed legally to invest in a casino. it doesn't interest me. it interests you, which is fine, because you're probably making money off of it
the only thing i care about is applications. i see none. thus i deem the whole sector as vaporware
financially? crypto is a great game for the suitably motivated. i applaud you if you have profited off of it
but technologically? crypto is a joke

instead i am saying that unlike the stock market, which is about ventures based on real world applications, #cryptocurrency has none. thus, it is only a casino
so you win the argument on the basis of scoping the discussion to the dreamer buying and selling crypto
but outside that argument: the consideration of what crypto actually does
it does nothing
it's just poker chips, with hype signals driving ups and downs that you can analyze
@benroyce @Jazone @mattblaze Cryptocurrency has always had two rock-solid backers: money laundering and buying crimes on the dark web. Every other potential non-speculative use is overshadowed by or driven out by those two. None of the crypto-networks have displaced Visa and MasterCard for clearing payments, because the network effects from buying drugs online and hiding money gets you the *wrong network* for trustworthy business to be in it. And all the rampant grift reinforces this.

segway escooters are quite popular where i live. there are almost as many escooters as there are bikes. they make the outdoors cleaner, safer and quiter.unfortunately, AI slop is indeed everywhere too, changing everything. posters, menus, invitations...
