    This is called the #pumpfoil. She is #pumpfoiling

    You pump up and down with your legs and that motion alone is all that is necessary to translate via a hydrofoil under the water surface (like a wing) to give you lift and forward motion

    You need good balance, endurance, and if you stop pumping you lose lift and sink rapidly

    EDIT: this is Alina Kornelli. See @bruno 's comment below

      @benroyce@mastodon.social @edgeofeurope@mastodon.social This is Alina Kornelli. A well known athlete:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alina_Kornelli

      The dress is a german Dirndl. A traditional Bavarian outfit. Often worn at Oktoberfest in Munich. Or even while pumpfoiling, if it happens to be Oktoberfest season.

      @bruno @edgeofeurope @benroyce

      A dirndl is a classical dress for most traditional festival or events. Very common for weddings also.

        @benroyce I think it's scandalous that she lets her hair loose like that. For the rest she looks like a good tradwife.

        @edgeofeurope @benroyce She is wearing a Dirndl, which in no way shape or form suggests that she is a tradwife, given that she is Bavarian where Dirndl are widely found as nice weekend dress and are as much a political statement as wearing trousers.

          @benroyce @bruno

          I find the first 45 seconds of this wing foiling video to be .. heartlifting, somehow.

          You can see many examples of pumping while the rider hunts for the next free ride from a new gradient wind or wave.

            @benroyce Thanks for sharing. I saw someone doing this just last week on holiday and wrongly assumed it was a powered board of some kind. But no! 😆

                                        @benroyce I think it's scandalous that she lets her hair loose like that. For the rest she looks like a good tradwife.

                                        @edgeofeurope

                                        I realise you may have meant your toot as a joke or irony but the attitude it describes needs to be pushed back against to minimise its effect on oppression of women.

                                        A woman wearing her hair how she wants to is no more scandalous than a man wearing his hair how he wants to.

                                        Women are more than just potential wives. The tradwife movement is damaging to equality and personal freedom (even to freedom of men because it puts them in a role that may in some ways be different to their preferences).

                                          Alina has a bunch of these videos where she's in fancy clothing and dresses pump foiling. Here's one that acknowledges the jeopardy: she can't clear a corner in time and goes in the drink. That's just the wages of pump foiling in high fashion! 🤭
