i'd go with "despise".

in the service, we all had some officer who demanded respect, yet did nothing to earn it. "respect the rank" only works if the officer in question themself respects the rank, the service, and their fellow military.

the opposite of respecting is despising.

dui pet, no tab pete, has the same complete lack of respect as the scum who appointed him. one considers our military "suckers", the other has some cartoon level picture of himself as a "soldier".

it's tragic that all the folks serving our country, who do respect rank and service, are being so horrifically treated and disrespected, put into harm's way for no good reason.
