Ok.

Ok.
Ok, my bad for following so-called tech news website accounts like Engadget, Gizmodo, Toms Hardware, Verge etc. All they are are fucking Amazon shills. Every single fucking post is some stupid Prime Day deal right now. I didn’t sign up for that.
Unsubscribing to all of them.

@dhry I guess this is meant to be sarcastic towards those who do?

@hosford42 I have never been sarcastic in my life.

@dhry Same!
I just have a hard time detecting it in others, sometimes.

@hosford42 I was being sarcastic when I said that. (sips room temperature coffee)
I probably need alt-text for my text posts.

@hosford42 I guess, if it were separated from the text it accompanies rather than being appended to it

@hosford42 That all being said I’m all for buying from Amazon, no sarcasm - lots of people cut off their nose to spite their own face wrt not subscribing to big tech. Big tech is cheap and gets things done - that’s WHY they’re big tech. Amazon is very useful and cheap. Google is extremely useful and free. I’m just pissed at Verge, Lifehacker etc. i wanted to read actually informative articles, like on how to hack my life for example. Not fuckwits telling me the latest deals on Prime for KEURIG 🤮

@dhry I'm against it because they directly funded our fascist regime's rise to power.

@hosford42 I’m against anyone becoming a billionaire. Mikel Jollett’s post says it so well - attached.
But I have used Google since the late 90’s for email and calendar, it’s incredibly versatile and I haven’t paid a red cent for it ever. There is nothing better and I won’t stop using it.
Similarly Amazon. I do pay for Prime but the money and time I’ve saved makes it very, very worth it. Not stopping using it either.
This country came about because of money. It always will BE about money.

@hosford42 It absolutely resonates. Did you see the other one about how it’s 3000 years ago and you start saving $10000 a day and even now you won’t have a tenth of the wealth of the top 1% or something to that effect?

Billionairism is an accounting error, with a gun to our head.

@kevinrns @hosford42 There is a problematic loophole in US finance. No tax on unrealized gains. You can accrue a HUGE amount of “on-paper” wealth tax-free. No need to report to IRS. You only pay tax when you exercise the gain.
The solution is either to tax unrealized gains or limit them to an arbitrary maximum (like that dog park meme). It’s what Biden and Harris were trying to do, but just for the bigwigs (for whom it wouldn’t really be a problem). https://www.investopedia.com/unrealized-gains-are-safe-from-biden-harris-tax-proposal-unless-you-have-usd100-million-8703570

@kevinrns @hosford42 Another creative solution that I came up with is the idea of an alternate mandatory market/shopping concept. Once your wealth and/or net income is above x you should be forced to buy anything and everything at “millionaire’s rates”. Like at any normal grocery or online story or anywhere. Regular people buy a gallon of milk for $2, it will cost a millionaire $20k. Call it mandatory sales tax perhaps. So the financial “impact” is the same. Extra $ goes to socialized medicine.

Very cool, if difficult to administer.
But.Your suggestion is exactly what Scandinavian nations do with fines!
If you speed, and you are a baker🧁 - your fine will be $102
if you own a bank, your fine is $83,986
_
"Finland, Home of the $103,000 Speeding Ticket
"Most of Scandinavia determines fines based on income"
But Best is just tax wealth. VERY POPULAR, not just with liberals and progressives but a majority of conservative voters too.
