Everybody has to coordinate with Starlink because SPACEX CONTROLS ORBIT. That's against the Outer Space Treaty.
Your engineering challenge, SpaceX, is to provide your services with fewer satellites. Not yell at everyone else for having satellites too.
@sundogplanets According to Wikipedia: "Starlink Services, LLC is a telecommunications subsidiary of the American spaceflight company SpaceX..."
SOMEBODY needs to coordinate all of the satellites that we exclusively control.

-
@sundogplanets And as a complete aside, I see from the comments and distribution of votes that Ars article comments are to continue to be avoided. I mistakenly assumed there would be a promoted or well regarded comment against this situation.
@tehstu @sundogplanets space ars is a weird bubble that likes to pretend "space cool" is enough to ignore everything else about elon

@sundogplanets Sooooo… obviously this is a fucking disaster, but how in the hell do we *undo* this bullshit without creating more of a problem (ie, blowing them up would be bad, deorbiting them would probably also be bad, etc)?

@octothorpe @sundogplanets We need that Jewish space laser.

@sundogplanets We should rebrand SpaceX
️ == SpaceTrash
️@stux @sundogplanets

Or SpaceXcrement
️ will do too? -
@BurritoSommelier We're already in Kessler syndrome at many altitudes. It's just the timescale between collisions is slow (for now)
@sundogplanets I watched this last night and one interviewee said basically the same thing - effectively that there’s enough up there already that it’s just a matter of time now

@sundogplanets Suddenly, it all makes sense now.

Soon, if not already, they will demand that other satellites, including geo-stationary ones, not interfere with Starlink transmission/spectrum. After all, the FCC is in their pocket. -

@sundogplanets It's 2026 so I think we've got plenty of evidence that no one is going to stop this jackass with the "rule of law" or "public shaming". That hypothesis is well and truly invalidated.
So what's next? Blowing up SpaceX facilities, or Musk's jets, using drones?

@sundogplanets if a collision does happen that causes Kessler syndrome and assuming shrapnel that can't be tracked is created, is there some minimum amount of time that all* the subsequent space trash will fall out of LEO. Is there a significant risk that it goes to higher orbit?
* Or enough that normal probability rules for safety apply

SpaceX just got approved for 15,000 more direct-to-cell satellites: https://www.fcc.gov/document/spacex-approved-ngso-mss-system-direct-device-services
Giant, bright, radio-loud. Fuck. I just saw SO MANY SATELLITES in my sky. Guess there will be more. And then lots of debris.

What are these metals doing to our upper atmosphere after de-orbit? At one point, we'd have insisted on studying this extensively before launching tens of thousands of satellites that will eventually come back down ... now, when you're a trillionaire, they just let you do it.
