"But that is not what’s happening with AI, because AI isn’t really designed to be therapeutic,” the Stanford professor continued. “It’s really designed to make people feel better in the short term, which also ultimately promotes continued engagement — which is the real agenda for these companies that are making and creating and profiting from these products… they’re not optimized for well-being.”

I just didn't realize it was my job as a spender in a capitalist system that they were talking about.

"The second thing that happens when people get very excited (as with AI) is that investors have trouble determining good ideas from bad."
So, he thinks we are in an AI bubble, although he also said he thinks AI will be revolutionary. Maybe it's both. Maybe he doesn't know. Maybe he should go back to selling books.
By the way, are we still waiting for Bitcoin to be adopted for mainstream use yet or is our attention on AI now?

Railway years ago was also a bubble.
When people feel their wealth has declined they stop spending and this can be recessionary.

It's just nonsense to suggest that you need to buy a new computer.

Google AI is currently telling me that a landowner cannot register a caution against his or her own land.
DuckDuckGo AI says the opposite.

Stupid people are going to stupidly rely on AI and kill us all.
And racists and white supremacists will rely on AI intentionally because it is racist and supremacist (for reasons I've expressed elsewhere but basically because they reflect Society back to us) so oligarchs will love it.
Everyone's going to use it as an excuse to cut jobs.
I REALLY love the future.

️
Edit: And don't even get me started about how humans have a bias to believe computers always pump out correct results.

"The buildings belong to Amazon and are being used by Anthropic, a leading AI firm, to train and run its models. According to one estimate, this data-center campus, far from complete, already demands more than 500 megawatts of electricity to power these calculations—as much as hundreds of thousands of American homes. When all the data centers in New Carlisle are built, they will demand more power than two Atlantas."

Tech companies are relying on businesses, the public sector and individuals to produce enough demand for AI – and to pay for it – to justify those revenue expectations."
