#science@jd Did you know that the same guy invented CFCs and leaded gasoline? Thomas Midgley, Jr. possessed "an instinct for the regrettable that was almost uncanny"

#science@jd I remember answering an exam question at 7the grade, I answered that the Ozone layer can be fixed, but the teacher substracted 2 marks from me, saying it's irreversible.
I want those two marks back!

#science@jd remarkably similar to what happened with the Y2K bug, and how people spoke about it afterwards "it was all a big hoax". I still get told that today.

@Purplegengar25 @jd Your teacher took into account that people are idiots and will break it again.

#science@jd And isn't the hole still sizable it just stopped growing?

#science@jd unfortunately, climate change and stopping using fossil fuels had not received the same type of treatment

#science@jd Unfortunately, the CFC actions had a massive gap in the AMOC shipping lanes, and the consequential overheating of the critical heat sink in the region. Overlapping ecosystems are amassing tremendous losses due to eloquent solves, following the miscalculations.
-
@jd And isn't the hole still sizable it just stopped growing?
@crazyeddie @jd it's actually getting smaller. It's still big, yes, but getting better.

#science@jd This is like the people that claim the Y2K bug was a non-issue. Not much happened because people did the work preventing it.
Some people just need to be repeatedly slapped in the face by reality until they accept something needs to be done about it.
-
@samk @jd you can blame fridges if you want, I remember though. I lived through the Bang Wars, I’ve seen forehead hair block out the sky. Clouds of Aqunet wafting down the hallway, building up on the bathroom mirror until you had to scrap it off with a razor blade. Then came the Hair Bands, you couldn’t tell where a lead singer stopped and a bassist began.

#science"Guy could have looked it up on #wikipedia but chose to ask the Internet a stupid question in the form of an accusation instead." Can we have a meme-word for that, please?

-
@jd Ssshhh. You know who will want to bring back the old style aerosol cans with CFCs and legacy refrigerants in automobile air conditioning because he doesn’t believe the science.
-

#science@jd Hey remember when Matt Walsh said that superstupid thing about the ozone hole disappearing on its own. Can we similarly fix that problem and eliminate dumb ignorant wind bags, too?

@jd Recently learned that the Halley Research Station in Antarctica was instrumental in detecting the ozone hole.
I guess that answers the question of whether we should support research in Antarctica.

#science@jd the depressing reality is ozone. Emissions are going up again. Nobody’s gonna talk about it because it’s all bunnies and butterflies with electrification or for the Maga crowd, clean, beautiful coal or some shit.

@jd Plus, that place has some top-notch #architecture.

#science@jd The fact is that the original poster most probably didn't read the answer, didn't understand it, or both.

@IAmDannyBoling @bouriquet @jd As long as only they are snorting that stuff themselves, I'm fine with that. Then they can also soon experience what great idea killing subsidized healthcare was..
