    Hey do any of you geniuses know how I can grab an audio file from Apple Music? A song my ancient band recorded is being held hostage. Apple won’t let me share it. It’s just some dumb out-of-tune Neil Young cover we made in my front hall, but afaik it’s the only extant copy. Last known recording of my dear friend and bandmate before she took her life. Really need to preserve it.

    @iBlame
    Depends on operating system but almost all have some built in program to do screen captures that also do recording of audio. Theres always just audio cable out to a physical recorder or even just use a phone to record it and then edit the file in Audacity for volume and to cut out the clicks and stuff at the beginning and end.

      @iBlame
      Maybe you can use https://doubledouble.top or https://lucida.to that both seems to support Apple Music, although I haven't tested it.

      Or you may need to use a program like https://tenacityaudio.org and loopback the computer's audio output to the program to record it.

        @iBlame I find them on the iTunes Store, can buy the songs for $1.29 each. I haven't purchased a song in a long time, but they should be regular AAC files (.m4a, no DRM) after downloading, I think?

          @puppethead Great idea, but the one I need isn’t available. I did find a couple other long-lost recordings though, so thank you!

            @iBlame IANAL and only partially related: the copyright info references "TIRC Records". Presumably you used them to release it? Ask them maybe?

            Check if it's on Qobuz, they sell DRM free FLACs (better quality). You'd have to buy it unfortunately.

            EDIT: It's not on Qobuz 😕

              @thesupertechie Thanks for trying. I have never heard of TIRC records. Is mystery!

                @iBlame Does it still play? A first step can be just a simple recording of line-out of your computer using a secondary device.

                  @pinhman I didn’t realize CDs were still even a thing. I used to have all the junk necessary, no idea if this will work. Maybe even have a couple blank CDs lying around from the Aughts. Great idea!

                    @iBlame It's very possible that the label you released with was bought by TIRC, which would explain that.

                      @iBlame can you use something like Audio Hijack to record it while it streams?
