I see a lot of anger motivated posts, from people claiming they really hate something. I also see posts from people that absolutely love something (and most of them are honest and fun to read, some very few try to sell me something). what is completely missing however are meh posts. Where people say that while something isn't as wonderful as they want it to be, it still gets the job done so all is good. So. Post more meh stuff 🙂 The world isn't binary 🙂 Let's call it #MehPost

@jwildeboer I prefer the secret third option: Hand scanner inside the store. Then I don't need to load or unload my cart at the checkout.

My electric bicycle is a cheap and simple no-name. It was less than €700 and its electronics are not very modern or comfortable. But it runs completely offline, has no Bluetooth or GPS or App and gets me from/to work and around town reliably since almost 2 years. It's truly meh and I like it that way 🙂 It uses more or less standard batteries that are cheap to replaee, though my original battery is still going strong, so no need yet to replace it.

@jwildeboer +1 on the self-checkout for only a few items. However, -2 for the people that go to the self-checkout with a fully laden shopping cart of which the contents will never fit on the tiny shelf at said self-checkout, so they take far too long to checkout and pay.

Our local supermarket always gives them the thievery check with the subtle hint to use the staffed counter next time 😁

@jwildeboer Here in Holland its the opposite: there's a fancy person sitting a hole in their chair behind the register, poor her/him. In the mean time we are all shouting, yelling an swearing to those shop boys and girls who have to randomly check if we are criminals stealing groceries, poor them. There is no "gezelligheid" anymore waiting in the queue and having a chat😔

@lordbowlich At least in the Netherlands, where I live, the self-checkouts are usually "tiny" and mostly used for only for small amounts of shopping.

I have only really seen the large self-checkout ones at big stores like IKEA 😁

My boss has closed the three branches closest to me. But there are still plenty left, dozens of them. Now I travel every day by three public transports across the (state) border, at his expense. Plus a pay rise. The total travel time is more than three hours. Because public transport doesn't cater to me or my boss, we do the opposite. I start work when I arrive, which during holiday periods is just before noon. I'm already gone before closing time, and on Saturdays it's out of the question to go there and back. It's just about bearable. Otherwise, my contract is so good that I could just stay at home on my normal salary...

The hate posts and the total love posts are IMHO (In My Humble Opinion) hard to overcome habits from the centralised "social" networks, where extreme posts get reach as the algorithms prefer outliers over average to provoke more interaction that allows them to sell more ads. ActivityPub and Mastodon are fundamentally different in that regard. Here we are people. Not influencers. So share more #MehPost, it's what makes us different. And better 🙂

I did 4 machines of laundry today and all socks ended up in pairs, no leftovers to worry about. It's now all on the drying racks and the smell of freshly washed laundry is making me feel good.

I'll start. My supermarket now has these fancy self-checkout counters. I still prefer to go to the register with a real person behind it, but when I only buy a bottle of milk and some other little things, the self-checkout is fast and convenient.

@jwildeboer I actually like the self checkout counters. They allow me to properly pack everything in my trolley without pressure.
