Yes. This!
The more i got educated about Tech/IT the more shit flew out of our house.I am back to analog solutions, no smart Home shit anymore. It is all gone ( Alexa, Smart heating Controll,...) and the Smart TVs are the next that is going.
My Computers are allowed Internet Access on my terms. Same goes for my phone.
Everything else reverts back to the old ways.
And i feel more free than ever. -
@crazyeddie @farrisswisher well i did say the situation had got worse, which is also what the EFF says. my best recommendation is accessing some public printer somewhere with a lot of users.
@quinn @farrisswisher Weird.
I thought I was the one suggesting the library and it was you who were suggesting one could go buy a "dumb" printer.
I get confused these days.

@quinn
Me: I don't want to use your app.
Them: Oh its really easy...
Me: I know, I don't want to use it.
Them: Its so easy, would you like me to show you?
Me: No, for the third time. I won't tell you again. I don't want to use it precisely because its so convenient. I know how it works and its not private and probably not even secure.
Them: well, there is no need to be like that about it.
Me: ... -

@crazyeddie @farrisswisher dumb but traceable, talking about something a bit different from there we started. i don't use printing much these days, and when i do it's usually stuff we're sending to the government with our names on the docs.

-
@quinn Out of all the pieces of hardware to keep, this person kept their printer???
Those things are constantly trying to call home and rewire themselves to keep you from using unapproved ink. That's the official story of what they're doing anyway--who even knows if that's true. They're like the last thing I'd keep around. You can go to the library and use a printer. You probably have to anyway because you're out of ink. You just bought ink yesterday but you're out.
WTF with the printer?
@crazyeddie@mastodon.social not if you buy yourself a Brother monochrome laser and don’t hook it up to your network :3

@quinn @farrisswisher This is a very weird, very confusing conversation I had no intention of starting.
I thought it odd for a tech person to pick a printer of all things to hang onto. That's 100% everything. I'm not going to say anything next time. I thought we were in joke zone but this has gotten weird.

@quinn this always bothered me because if all you have is a printer, how are you printing anything anyway?

@quinn i work on the cutting edge of technology. I stream music from black plastic discs by dragging a rock over its surface.

@quinn The programmer is driving a bunch of us to lunch, and we come to an at grade RR crossing with automatic gates and signals
The programmer STOPS the car, rolls down the windows, looks carefully then crosses the track
when we all say: you don't have to do that, there are automatic signals, he says

Pardon the train geekery...
I look both ways too, despite rail safety systems being rated for a dangerous failure of ≥ 10−9 to < 10−8 per hour.

@unsungnovelty so it was on old Twitter, and it's probably still there, but the account went private a while ago -- looks Trump related going private to ignore Elon's stupid fash

An acquaintance of mine had what he called the Sony adjustment tool.
It was a sledgehammer kept in the corner of his computer room

@quinn This comes from a 2017 Tumblr post.
Edit: Or at least that is where I first saw it! It could be older.

@quinn I find it somewhat ironic that this guy tweeted this in 2019 and since then became one of the biggest elon bootlickers on the internet
