    "On August 6, 1991, the first website was introduced to the world. [It] contained information about the World Wide Web Project. It launched at the European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN, where it was created by British computer scientist @timbl."

    Happy birthday, web!

    @stefan @timbl
    I remember logging in anonymously to #CERN using #telnet on an old #UNIX system to access #lynx to #browse the #Internet in 1992-93 at The Queen's University of Belfast #QUB. Shortly after, QUB installed PCs with direct Internet access. P.S. I still use lynx today.

    Edit: to better clarify where and when!

              @stefan @timbl wow, instantly transported back to when every link was a fun rabbit hole! I could start out on my own first site (aol back in the day!) and end up reading about microbiology in Timbuktoo - or something equally removed from my quotidian existence. I miss that.

                                @stefan @timbl This is how websites should look. I miss the front page that had a bunch of hyperlinks that looked ugly as hell but was super useful. Much better than the super slick, but completely unusable, modern websites.

                                  @stefan Here's one I made even earlier, for my dad's company: https://web.archive.org/web/19961230081906/http://srroberts.com/ . I don't remember if I got paid for it, so I don't know if it counts as "professional"

                                    @stefan look at that awful stone-like tiling background, the "click here"-ass bad anchor text, revel in that imagemap at the bottom

                                        @stefan haha, wow, my first website would be like 29 years old, crazy how much closer it is to the existence of the first one than today!
