@remaster nice for lefties, but a lot of Europeans hate this kind of caps.

@keesjanb@mastodon.vlaanderen @remaster@mastodon.social The cap is actually great, but there are bottles with shitty caps that's too lose. The right cap is just tight enough that it basically 'clicks' open and stays in place and won't ever cover the hole when you pour out your drink.

      @remaster
The number of times I accidentally spilt water over myself while drinking increased a lot thanks to this bs...
And some of the water bottles at work have an especially shitty cap that you cannot properly close again w/o ripping the cap off first.
And the scratches to lips and nose...

Thanks to all the idiots that threw their waste into the environment.

Well... At least this didn't break our Reverse Vending Machine software. Was seeing me adapting our bottle detection to this abomination for weeks on end already when those came out...

@willi @magezwitscher I don't see how that makes it less applicable. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's the point.

@sillyCoelophysis maybe i am to invested in what was supposed to be shitposting, - but seeing what @noybeu is working on and how bigtech noW wants to "save" the cookie banner maybe makes it a good 5eur bill, but i doubt that everybody in the EU would know the latest of this charade.

@remaster A note with a bunch of esoteric safety warning signs in different languages would be unifying.

Every time I'm in the EU or UK, I am fascinated by the things in public they choose to warn me about.

@mawhrin @keesjanb @remaster It's also extremely difficult to pour from one of these bottles without liquid spilling from inside the cap onto places where you don't want liquid.

So what happens is that you instead have to use two hands, one on the cap and one on the bottle.

@mawhrin @keesjanb @remaster Or, and hear me out now, you can not throw away the cap even when it isn't attached to the bottle!

If you think telling people "you're doing it wrong" is a solution, we could just have said that and no redesign would have been necessary, right?

The new design of the caps has major flaws, something the corresponding design change for aluminium cans didn't have. That design just works, and no one thinks about it, and we don't have aluminium tabs lying around anymore.

@bill88t @Elektrotier @remaster They also speculate that they could come from other countries, including the UK, where caps are not required to be attached.

The vast majority of handy-sized plastic drinks bottles here in UK do seem to have attached lids. I didn't understand it when it first came out, so perhaps some ppl still don't embrace the idea. Still, IMO it's greenwashing the fact of single use disposable plastics. I don't think my municipality are too clear about exactly what happens to our carefully pre-sorted recyclables, caps attached or not.

they are not the same on all bottles, some are more annoying than others.
for example if they can't easily be screwed back on again.
or if the cap always slides/rotates to the lower side where your lip should be.

but all in all it's just pointless symbol politics, annoying without solving a significant part of the problem of plastic pollution

@lritter Then the same thing could be said for less littering of caps in general. No, it's not reasonable to just dismiss it as chance.

@mawhrin @keesjanb @remaster This is not about my use of the cap, it's a design problem.

The can industry found a solution without major flaws, and the plastic bottle industry didn't. Sending a 100 page manual with each bottle detailing nifty tricks isn't design, and neither is sharing the tricks with us on Mastodon.

@MattMoose @bill88t @Elektrotier @remaster Yes, single use more-than-15%-plastic containers have been banned here if they are classified as cups and filled in a café. But if they are classified as bottles and filled in a factory, they don't seem to be questioned at all. Single use is still single use.

@remaster I hate these stupid attached lids. Especially on milk bottles because they flop down while you’re pouring and the milk goes everywhere.

I’ve started just breaking them off.

@remaster @ahltorp @Elektrotier because now everyone hate those caps. Can you open close with one hand? Can you pour water in a glass with one hand? That sus cap fall under flow and everything gets water instead of glass 👍
