I spent nearly half an hour this morning cross checking a Japanese print that is confidently being attributed to a famous, now dead, Japanese print maker on social media. 300 boosts on Bluesky etc.
Google Lens, Tineye ... no hits at all before 2026. AI slop is everywhere (sigh).
I guess the subtext is that I do try to filter the AI art stuff, but it's getting hard.

@Natasha_Jay I suspect we will have to go back to books published before the 2020s to be sure if something is genuine.

@simonwilliamson @Natasha_Jay I sadly feel the same way. I trust books published before AI took over far more than things published in 2026.

I really liked it or I wouldn't have bothered. Also it didn't vibe quite right vs real examples of his work. So I've learned not to trust even plausible pre-attributions on social media. Grrr...
